TMS has been active
in the Japanese market for years, gradually increasing its leadership
in lithotripsy and TUMT. This strong presence was first established
by our local distributor, NEET KK, with whom TMS formed a joint
venture in 1996, and acquired 100% of it in late 1997. More than
a hundred lithotripters and 52 Prostatrons have been installed in
Japan. Reimbursement of the TUMT procedure was first obtained in
1997, and to date more than 4,000 patients have been treated. The
compact versions of the Prostatron and Sonolith have recently been
approved, and these "Praktis" versions are now being marketed in
Japan. TMS products and clinical results are regularly presented
at the "Annual Meeting of the Association of Japanese Urologists"
which numbers more than 4,000 participants. EDAP Technomed Co. Ltd.
is based in Tokyo, and is responsible for marketing, sales, service
and regulatory approvals for the Japanese market. EDAP Technomed
Co. Ltd. also distributes urodynamic devices from the German company
Andromeda.
